The Forward Times, a weekly black newspaper of Houston, was first published in 1960 by Julius Carter. It was subsequently owned and operated by Lenora Carter after her husband's death in 1971. It was published after 1977 by the Forward Times Publishing Company (as Houston Forward Times), and remains one of few black newspapers in the country printing its own publication.
